New Things

So we have been in a little bit of a home renovation mode lately. Thank you Parade of Homes and 12 weeks off work! Brian and I have lived in our cute little town home for 3 years now. It was supposed to be a "2 year home", but with the market like it is, we are stuck. We would love to sell it so let me know if you know anyone who might be interested in a 3 bedroom 2 1/2 bath. Anyway on to home projects! The first project struck me when my brother and his wife redid their kitchen cabinets. You can see their success here. Well I wasn't quite as ambitious as them and I decided to start on our half bath cabinets. I wanted to see if I liked the way they turned out before I tackled the kitchen. Well let's just say it was slightly more difficult than my brother made it look. The sanding and disassembling part was a piece of cake it was the painting that was a pain in the arse. I wanted the finish to look really professional so I used a paint gun to paint them. To make a long story short, I will just tell you it took me 2 weeks to do two doors. Really! So as you can imagine, I will not be doing the kitchen anytime soon. Of course I didn't take a before picture so here is a picture of the kitchen cabinets so you can get an idea with what I started with. Here are the after shots:
I do like the way they turned out. Maybe some day I will do the kitchen. I just need some good motivation.
The next project that we decided on was to get new carpet. Disgusting does not begin to describe our old carpet. Years of wear and tear, dog accidents, food spills, gives you this:
I really should have done close up pictures of all the stains, but I don't want you to throw up.
Sergeant was really distressed through the whole process. As you can tell.
Don't you love how everything is just shoved and thrown in a corner? I can't believe we lived like this for 3 days! You know I had Grey's Anatomy playing in the background. Here is the finished product! I absolutely love the way it turned out, the color, the smell, EVERYTHING! New carpet is just the best.
Once we got the new carpet in, I realized just how disorganized my house is. Again, no before pictures. I know I am the worst and this! But just use your imagination. Imagine a corner stacked pretty much to the ceiling with crafting supplies. I tried to keep it tidy, but lets be honest, it was a wreck. I found this little beauty at Ikea. I got the drawers at Target. The whole thing cost less than 100 bucks. Wha Hoo!
Moving on to the closet. I was so sick of our shoes in piles in the closet. I found these at Target as well. SO much BETTER! I need to buy about two more of these things to house all my shoes, but for now, such an improvement.
The last project (well not THE last. Brian is still working on a couple to be mentioned later). Is the Venetian Plaster in the Office. This picture doesn't do it justice. It was still wet so it sort of looks weird. It looks really cool on the wall and it gives it a really neat textured look. Finally, not a home project, but too cute not to mention. Look who is on the move.
Well sort of. But holding your head up while on your tummy is a HUGE accomplishment when you are not even three months old.
Well I am slowly catching up on my posts. Now that I am back at work, it will be a lot harder to keep up on it, but I will do my best. Thanks for reading!

I came across your blog through a mutual friend and I LOVE the way your cabinets turned out! I have a bookcase I've been wanting to refinish but until I saw your cabinets I wasn't sure what I wanted to do. I was wondering if you would tell me what you used and how you did them? I would really appreciate it! My email is bnhendricksen@gmail.com. Thank you! And your little girl is just darling!
